Arc’teryx explores the history of British Columbia’s Spearhead Traverse in this cinematic gem

Arc’teryx was born and bred on the coastal mountains of British Columbia. In the brand’s newest feature-length film, five Arc’teryx athletes, including Eric “Hoji” Hjorleifson and Lucy Sackbauer, set out to experience one of the most trafficked backcountry routes, the Spearhead Traverse, as it reaches the brink of a historical shift. The Spearhead Traverse connects Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain and since the route was first completed in 1964, has skyrocketed in popularity.

But as more humans set foot on the skin track, the zone so many love is being threatened by overuse. Spearhead: Pushing the Boundaries of BC’s Backcountry, directed by Seth Gillis, both celebrates the famed backcountry route while also posing the inherent question–how do we save it from ourselves?
