This four-and-a-half-minute slideshow by Reuben Krabbe features stunning photography: the shots blend badass skiing with artistic nudes and landscapes, too. That said, it’s probably NSFW, but it’s sure to please. Enjoy.
Krabbe says:
Revelstoke’s Hot Lapse Photo Shootout is modeled after Whistler’s classic Deep Winter format: photographers have three days to shoot the entire slideshow, and the day following the competition, slideshows must be exported and handed in by 2:00 p.m. However, in Hot Lapse competition, we only had to work within resort boundaries at Revelstoke Mountain Resort on one out of those three days, allowing us to explore and shoot in the amazing bounty of old growth surrounding the ski resort.
I took this slideshow competition as an opportunity to shoot a concept that I’ve wanted to work on for a while, but was unable to do at other competitions due to restrictions. I needed wider shots of powder skiing to create the image blends to make the idea work. Other inbounds competitions would be nearly impossible to find areas of untracked pow large enough to shoot convex and concave undulations in the landscape.
The other significant part of this project was working out of my home turf. As a Whistler photographer, I’ve shot in Revelstoke before, but don’t know the areas well enough to pick out specific zones based on snow conditions or a shot list. I used locals Sean Cochrane and Gord Spurgeon both as athletes and a resource for great local knowledge. Without their help I would have been up the creek without a paddle.
