On Movie Monday, FREESKIER brings you free movies from the wide world of skiing. With a mix of old and new, this is where you can find your weekly dose of freeski history, adrenaline and cinema mastery all in one.

Kye Petersen is, without a doubt, deserving of a spot in the freeskiing hall of fame. Few riders have been able to decipher massive mountains and demonstrate incredible creativity the way he has. He’s dabbled in almost every aspect of the sport, from ski production to full-length movies. “NUMINOUS” is perhaps his greatest accomplishment in the latter, winning several awards during the film’s 2017 debut, including Best Cinematography and Standout Big Mountain Film at the International Freeski Film Festival.

The masterful combination of sound design and cinematography is evident in “NUMINOUS” from the first 60 seconds to the last. The credits alone blend nature shots with surrealist tones to give the viewer a sense of the humbling wilderness that encompasses the film’s location: British Columbia, Canada. Numinous is a term that can define anything with a spiritual or divine quality, and you’d be hard-pressed not to notice this idea throughout the movie. Each area is portrayed in a near-holy way, whether it’s the populated hills of Whistler Blackcomb or the empty high peaks of interior British Columbia.

Of course, we’d be remiss without mentioning the cast. Kye Petersen, Matty Richard, Logan Pehota, Pep Fujas, Ryland Bell, Tatum Monod, Chris Rubens, Callum Pettit, Dane Tudor and Wiley Miller put on an absolute clinic to the surprise of no one. While you excitedly await for your local peaks to fill in, take an hour to unwind and take inspiration for the season ahead.
