On Movie Monday, FREESKIER brings you free movies from the wide world of skiing. With a mix of old and new, this is where you can find your weekly dose of freeski history, adrenaline and cinema mastery all in one.
Modern street skiing combines creative filmmaking with brazen stunts in concrete jungles. The Forre crew has been at the cutting edge of this corner of freeskiing for the last few years, and “Forrmula” is one of our favorite projects they’ve ever produced. With Arttu Heikinen at the cinematic helm, this band of Finnish skiers has gathered a dedicated following thanks to their ability to think out of the box both while skiing and cooking up segments. Technical, unique and remarkable, Harald Hellström, Joona Sipola and the rest of the Forre skiers should be high on your radar.
As Level 1’s Conor Smith wrote in a FREESKIER article describing the Forre crew, “They build ‘em different in Finland. Maybe it’s the short days, the bitter winters, the icy conditions or the flat, barren landscape—whatever it may be, skiers raised in the far reaches of Scandinavia aren’t a normal breed.” Heikkinen and friends have continued to make masterful street skiing films since their 2017/18 debut, with differences in style and personnel adding something new throughout the years. In fact, this film was Heikkinen’s first time taking full control of the prcoess. His expertise as a photographer is evident, with each frame lining up immaculately well, capturing the gut-wrenching street skiing to its fullest. We think you’ll agree after watching that “Forrmula” truly brings something special to the table.
