Michelle Parker’s name has been everywhere since the start of freestyle skiing. Growing up in Squaw Valley, California, as a ski racer, something clicked in her teenage years, sparking a new interest in the fast-growing park and freeride scene. With a strong set of fundamentals and a hard-charging attitude, Parker easily transitioned into skiing the rowdiest lines at Squaw, hitting the biggest man-made jumps and, basically, sending it bigger and better than all the boys.
Since breaking onto the scene, Parker has been featured in countless films by Matchstick Productions; she’s traveled the world once-over in search of deep snow; and she’s recovered from a slew of devastating injuries. Now, Parker stars in her own documentary series, coined “Originate.” Filmed by the action sports gurus at Red Bull Media House, “Originate” highlights the many ups and downs of Parker’s career, telling her story in genuine fashion.
In the first episode of the series, featured above and entitled “Who is Michelle Parker?”, explore the beginnings of Parker’s career and her transformation from ski racer to park rat to backcountry queen. With commentary from her mother and father as well as a handful of professional skiers, including Mark Abma and Elyse Saugstad, this episode captures Michelle’s personality and career like never before.
