As a former student of the University of Utah, Isaac Freeland was a Little Cottonwood Canyon skier for several years. He tore up the surrounding area, first through big mountain and freeride competitions, and later as a local. But that’s not where his roots lie. In fact, Freeland isn’t a skier by nature. As stunning as that may be, the 2020 Freeride World Tour champion grew up in southern California, and wasn’t even on skis until he was eight. His first big mountain competition was half way through his high school career, and he took second place. Since that point, he has developed a love for freeride skiing that has led him to become of the best in the world. Let’s just say that it has been anything BUT luck that’s landed him in his current position. Isaac has put in an unbelievable amount of work and dedication to become the skier he is today.
Unfortunately, the former FWT champ was ruled out during last years competition due to injury. But if this set back has done anything, it’s fueled the fire that he’s had burning for sometime. For proof, refer to the video here, that shows Isaac and fellow ripper Riis Wilbrecht tearing up a couloir in Isaacs current home state of Montana. It’s safe to say the two have been enjoying what the Big Sky country has to offer. Keep an eye out for big man Freeland this winter, as he looks poised and ready to make another big run on the FWT circuit this winter.
