After a two-year hiatus, Red Bull Cold Rush is set to return, fusing the disciplines of backcountry slopestyle, big-mountain and alpine ski touring. The event goes down February 3-6, 2015, at BC’s own Revelstoke Mountain Resort, and a $36,000 prize purse is on the line.
The athlete roster is as follows:
Bene Mayr (GER)
Sage Cattabriga-Alosa (USA)
Sean Pettit (CAN)
Dane Tudor (CAN)
Sammy Carlson (USA)
Chris Rubens (CAN)
Kye Petersen (CAN)
Riley Leboe (CAN)
Callum Pettit (CAN)
Wiley Miller (CAN)
Logan Pehota (CAN)
Richard Permin (FRA)
Johnny Collinson (USA)
Stan Rey (SUI)
Joe Schuster (CAN)
Tatum Monod (CAN)
Michelle Parker (USA)
Ingrid Backstrom (USA)
Grete Eliassen (USA)
Suz Graham (USA)
This marks the first time Cold Rush makes its home at Revelstoke, where three distinct contest venues will host each of the specific ski disciplines. Tasked with preparing the backcountry slopestyle venue is none other than Riley Leboe; he and his five-man crew spent one full week preparing the hand-built features.
The slopestyle zone includes roughly eight or nine jumps where skiers will have a choice to hit three features at the top of the venue, mid-mountain or at the bottom. Beyond the kickers, the slopestyle course also features challenging natural terrain including wind lips and a step-over that competitors can take advantage of.
“Athletes are going to have to nail three jumps in each line… it’s hard enough stomping one jump first try in the backcountry, so stomping three huge tricks out here is really going to show the level that freeskiing is at,” says Leboe.
