The year is 2016, and freeskiing has been shaken up by a new group of European riders from the north. They’re low on budget and high on stoke… and probably something else, but that’s beside the point. The Keesh crew would go on to produce some of the greatest projects of the time, from their first feature film to smaller edits like “Land of the Darker Sun” and plenty in between.
Fast forward eight years and for the first time in half a decade, we’ve got a fresh Keesh movie to enjoy. Looking back, the original group is packed with names that have now become consistent staples in freeskiing, even helping to shepherd the sport forward in more ways than one. Antti Ollila, Joona Kangas, Elias Syrjä and Ailo Riponiemi are just a few of the individuals here who have left their original mark and will undoubtedly continue to do so.
This third project is, in any preferable metric, as good as any film released this year. It’s not filmed on wildly expensive cameras or edited in a state-of-the-art studio. It’s a product and labor of love, and you’ll feel that from the first minute to the last. Dim the lights and gather your friends, because it’s time for “Keesh 3.”
