Giro Sport Design has announced that it will join the likes of Armada, Oakley and other major snow industry brands to support the first annual JP Memorial event in Riksgränsen, Sweden, May 3-7. The event aims to celebrate the life and vision of the late JP Auclair, an innovator and iconic figure within our sport, who’s life was taken in a fatal avalanche earlier this year.
The JP Memorial, a throwback 90’s themed celebration in Riksgränsen will feature ski contests such as: Best Backflip Mute, Quarter Pipe Best Hit, Best Straight Air, and Send It (Concept: you send it, you win). Open contests to everyone in attendance will include Best Hair, Most Fun, and Best Photo.
“JP was more than just a Giro athlete. He was a great person and our friendship transcended the typical athlete and Team Manager relationship.” says Chuck Platt, Giro Sports Marketing Director. “We’re really honored that we can be involved in the JP Memorial and celebrate our friend, while having fun and giving back to the sport of skiing through Alpine Initiatives and JP’s Fund.”

Press Release:
Santa Cruz, CA – Giro Sport Design, the industry leader in progressive snow helmet and optics technologies, has signed on as a supporting sponsor of the 1st Annual JP Auclair Memorial event to be held May 3-7, 2015 in Riksgransen, Sweden.
The vision for the JP Memorial is a throwback 90’s themed concept grassroots event that will become an annual festival where people can come together to remember and celebrate the legacy of their friend, make new friends, enjoy the spirit of competition, and have fun. In keeping with the spirit of 1998, media and people in attendance are encouraged to document using analog methods (if possible) by using a point and shoot disposable film camera, or hitting up their local thrift store for an old camera and scrounging up a roll or two of film.
The event will also play host to an open format contest for a limited number of entrants, with 90’s themed competitions and hand-made freestyle features. The contest categories include Best Backflip Mute, Quarter Pipe Best Hit, Best Straight Air, and Send It (Concept: you send it, you win). Open contests to everyone in attendance will include Best Hair, Most Fun, and Best Photo.
“JP was more than just a Giro athlete. He was a great person and our friendship transcended the typical athlete and Team Manager relationship.” said Chuck Platt, Giro Sports Marketing Director. “We’re really honored that we can be involved in the JP Memorial and celebrate our friend, while having fun and giving back to the sport of skiing through Alpine Initiatives and JP’s Fund.”
JP Auclair created Alpine Initiatives to amplify the positive impact he aspired to have on this world. In merging that aspiration with his love for mountains, and everything they represent, Alpine Initiatives now exists to inspire and fund the betterment of mountain communities across the world.
