The time has come to cast your votes for the 2011 Skier of the Year. Between 16 men and eight women, only one of each sex will walk away victorious, and it's up to you to decide who wears the crown.
After a series of heated (VERY heated) debates, we selected our nominees based on competition results, magazine play, online exposure and movie parts from the 2010/2011 season. This selection process is quite difficult—being as there are so many worthy athletes—but at the end of the day, the line must be drawn and the lingering questions laid to rest.
Once we picked the athletes, we dropped their names into a hat and pulled 'em out one-by-one to create a series of matchups. Between now and November 1, you'll vote for the round of 16. When those votes have been tallied, we'll be left with eight men, and you'll then cast your votes once again. Voting for the women's category will open on November 1 so that both brackets end at the same time.
Eight will become four, and four will become two. After the final round, the men's and women's bracket winners will be crowned the 2011 Skier of the Year and receive a feature in the February issue of FREESKIER (newsstands on Januery 10), along with global prestige and a year's worth of coveted bragging rights.
