Utah’s Cottonwood Canyons saw a hearty storm roll in two nights ago, and by morning on September 17th, multiple inches had fallen in the high peaks around Mount Superior. Snow continued to fall throughout the day, with Snowbird Resort reporting over half a foot at the top of the tram. The storm hit all four resorts in both Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons, covering Alta, Snowbird, Solitude and Brighton in a welcoming white blanket.
Ski areas in Canada, California, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana reported their first snowfall in the previous weeks, but this storm appears to have delivered some of the most snow we’ve seen anywhere this fall. Alta’s Marketing Manager, Adam Fehr remarked, “While we typically see a dusting of snow on the peaks of Alta in September (and occasionally August), it’s a little unusual to see top-to-bottom snow and accumulation this early in the season.”
Of course, all of these resorts are still in summer and fall operations mode. Snowbird’s legendary Oktoberfest is in full swing, with beers, brats, live music and steins continuing until October 13th. BUT, just because it’s a little early to start thinking about sliding on snow doesn’t mean you can’t daydream. Enjoy the photo gallery below, with images graciously provided by each resort. Let your imagination run wild, and hell, if you’re not a Salt Lake resident, it might be time to start planning your trip to the holy land of bountiful pow this winter.
