Nick Goepper has been undergoing what could be called a Miley Cycrus caliber rebrand for the last few months. Through the coaching of controversy king the Steve Stepp, Goepper has been cranking out some wild, cringy, eye-grabbing content on Instagram. He’s had some hits, he’s had some misses, but that’s how show business works baby.
A three time Olympian, Nick is no stranger to the limelight. As you might already know, he’s won three Olympic medals (two silver and one bronze), and six X Games medals (four gold and two silver). His Slopestyle resume is on another level, and after so much accomplishment in the sport he felt as though it might be time to step aside from the competition scene.
Nick announced his retirement earlier this year and was immediately cut by most of his sponsors, including Red Bull. His humility when discussing the loss of his sponsors is inspiring. On a recent episode of The Powell Movement, Nick admitted that he was, “not creating any value for Red Bull for months and months… if I was Red Bull I wouldn’t have considered [myself] an asset any more and I probably would have made the same decision.” I’m sure there are many people out there who would blame their sponsors instead of themselves. While it’s hard to see such a storied skier be treated so cold by his long time allies, the decision to cut him is understandable. They’re business after all, and they need to be backing the most active in the game.
He didn’t let this get him down, however. Goepper took to social media, died his hair blue, and ran to the internet with arms wide open. Volkl and his home mountain of Perfect North, Indiana have stood by his side during this interesting time, and it appears that they’ll be happy they did.
After a very short retirement, Nick is officially pulling a Michael Jordan and coming back to the comp scene. This is no ordinary resurrection however, as the Midwest dawg is no longer eyeing down slopestyle, but switching to halfpipe. He has set his sights on the US Team for a spot in the 2026 winter Olympics. Stay tuned for updates on his journey and rebrand as Nick dives into a full halfpipe competition schedule this winter.
