Josh Daiek Tackles Big Lines and Big Airs in the Sierra Nevada

He could probably be classified as your favorite skier’s favorite skier. Josh Daiek has grown to be known as one of the rowdiest big mountain and freeride skiers out there, and for good reason. The Salomon athlete is an outstanding rider. His line choice is, in a word, intimidating. He doesn’t shy away from high speeds. In fact, he encourages them. Combine that with a taste for big airs and a love for riding hard in no-fall zones, and you’ve got a style that screams “f*ck yeah!”

In episode seven of his series titled “One Track Mind,” Daiek heads to the Sierra Nevada Mountains to revisit one of his favorite spots. “This zone just speaks to my style of skiing,” he claims. “Fall line, fast and fluid.” Deep snow or hard pack, it doesn’t matter for this mountain goat. He scampers his way with a smile on his face, down open faces and fat cliffs. The combination of POV, camera and drone shots makes this edit wildly entertaining. If JD wasn’t already on your radar, he should be now.

I always say it’s either feast or famine in the Sierra Nevada. I’ve seen 700-plus inches of snowfall in a year but I’ve also seen somewhere less than 100 inches in a year. You never know what you’re going to get here, but if you’re not picky there’s always fun skiing to be had. That’s a long-winded intro to say that is the basic moral of this episode. It’s not always powder nor is it perfect, so make the most of the conditions you got and enjoy it!
