Jess Cumming Wins US Open Halfpipe

Under the snowy Colorado skies Jess Cumming has bested her previous US Open finishes by taking the top spot in the Women’s Halfpipe competition. The women’s field of 16 that made up the finals was strong, although the lack of Grete and Sarah at the competition was a marked disappointment for the event.

Coupling some of the biggest amplitude of the field, with a 540 and 720, Jess locked down her 1st place on her 3rd run in the finals. Coming in 2nd was Mirjam Jaeger, whose right and left side spins helped catapult her onto the podium. Unfortunately, Mirjam injured herself on her 3rd run, and was unable to attend the ceremonies, we wish her the best of luck on her injury. Rounding out the podium was Alberta’s Rosalind Groenewoud, whose 900 and 720, but a lack of amplitude, helped secure the spot.

The top finishers as well as Angeli Van Laanen and Megan Gunning managed decent and consistent amplitude, while the rest of the crew couldn’t quite get the amplitude that we saw at the X Games. Whether it was the snowy conditions or not, the air just wasn’t as exciting overall. Other standouts from the day include Davina Williams who was wrapping up 900s and Stephanie Seriani who utilized multiple switch hits. The last day of the US Open saw some great skiing and good competition for the women.
