Ski-mountaineer extraordinaire and author of Ski The 14ers, Chris Davenport is currently acting as a guide the Himalaya, attempting to summit Mt. Everest with his client.
Taking a break from their climbing, Chris and his partner Neal Beidleman had the opportunity to ski the famed Lhotse face; they join only a handful of other skiers to have done so. Rising 3.2 km (2.0 mi) in only 2.25 km (1.4 mi) of horizontal distance, the Lohtse face is considered the steepest face of this size in the world.
Chris noted, "If I were to rank it in my lifetime resume of ski descents, it would definitely make the top three, joining perhaps the Messner Couloir on Denali and the East Face of the Matterhorn near the top of the list."
