WINTER PARK, COLO. (November 12, 2010) – Winter Park Resort will revitalize the six progressive terrain parks with major features improvements, new events, competitions and activities planned for the coming season. Capital improvements in the park and pipe system include 20 new rails in 2010/11, which are currently under construction. Winter Park’s impressive setup and easy going vibe are no longer a local’s secret after breaking into the “Top 10 Overall Resorts” ranked by TransWorld SNOWboarding reader’s poll in 2010. With this new industry ranking, planned upgrades and excitement continuing from last season, the foundation is set for another unforgettable season.

NEW Terrain Park Features in 2010/11

Winter Park’s six progressive terrain parks are receiving 20 new rails including: two propane tank-jibs, “Kid” the horse feature is back ‘from pasture’, 20 single-barrel rails with a variety of configurations of flat, kinked, C-rails, rainbows, etc. In addition, there are sections that can be combined to create almost any imaginable configuration of rail feature!

Winter Park Competition Center

Kids and teens looking to get into the world of competitive skiing and riding should check out the multiple park and pipe programs, including the WPST Terrain Park Programs, WPST All Terrain Programs and the Freestyle and Freeride Programs, at Winter Park Competition Center. Take advantage of this opportunity to ski or ride weekly with fun, encouraging, and knowledgeable coaches will progress each skier or rider’s skill set to the next level! Major Events

Winter Park’s terrain park events calendar begins on November 27-28 with the affordable and accessible 5th SO-GNAR Mighty Midwest Snowboard Camp Tour presented by Skullcandy dB. Winter Park is the first of 12 stops on the expanded schedule, which now includes across the Midwest, Colorado, California, Washington and our first-ever camp in Japan.

The Burton Am Series competitions will take place at six stops across the nation, including Winter Park Resort on January 29-30, 2011. The Am Series gives up-and-coming riders an opportunity to qualify for the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships held in March, 2011 at Stratton, Vermont. The Burton Am Series is a Swatch TTR 3Star event. Riders may register to compete in the Am Series atwww.burton.com/amseries.

A successful event returning to the terrain parks is the 3rd Annual WP Freeskiing Open scheduled for March 12-13, 2011. The goal is to have a unique format event, provide the finalist with exposure via a live webcast, and put some money in the pockets of the best freeskiing athletes in the region. Winter Park is leveling the playing field to give sponsored and un-sponsored athletes the same chance to enter and compete for all the finalist spots. Terrain Park System

Designed as a progressive system, the six parks range from the beginner area of Starter Park and Bouncer to the classic Rail Yard and expert only Dark Territory. Add-in the superpipe of the park system and Winter Park can accommodate every level of skier or rider. The naming theme is construed from Winter Park’s strong history with the railroad and Moffat Tunnel through the Continental Divide.

Bouncer: Caboose
Bouncer and Starter Park is the place to START riding rails. Rails are wide and low to give first-time skiers or riders no excuse but to try them out.

Ash Cat: locomotive fireman Ash Cat Terrain Park has features to help you build your park riding skills. Ash Cat is fun for those beginning to ride parks and super-fun for seasoned riders who want to test their biggest tricks….on the smallest of features.

Gangway: space between the rear cab post of a locomotive and locomotive’s tender. Located under the Prospector Lift, Gangway includes a few fun features and jibs that are more fun than riding down lower Kendrick through the first-timers.

Rerailer: A device to assist in putting derailed cars back on the track. Skiers and riders can take their skills from Ash Cat to Re-railer for the logical progression to follow when stepping up tricks featuring rails, jumps, and other jib-features to get the creative juices flowing!

Rail Yard® is Winter Park’s premier and most advanced terrain park. Guests can look for new features to switch up the layout of the park. Jibbable features will pepper the park to keep skiers and riders creative and fun. In addition to the massive inventory of rails and features, the ¾ mile long park, plus Dark Territory, is recognized as one of the best in North America!

Dark Territory is a controlled-accessed section located in lower Rail Yard® and includes the largest and most technical features in our park system. A separate pass is required to access this area. The goal of Dark Territory is to offer the largest features of Winter Park’s terrain park to those who are willing to take an extra step to increase their awareness of Terrain Park safety and etiquette.
