It appears as though our prayers to Üllr over the summer have paid off, as Old Man Winter has come into the 2014-15 ski season with a bang, blanketing Colorado with an early season storm. Many resorts across the Centennial State received upwards of 10 inches of snow on Sunday the 14th, with even more expected to drop by this morning. This particular editor was fortunate enough to be shredding Winter Park Resort, Mary Jane specifically, where a total of seven inches had fallen overnight, with free refills available throughout day.
The Pony Express double chair was the place to be, all day. The pillows and cliff drops were filled in through the trees off of the Pony Express Trail (surprising for this time of year) and trails like Derailer and Coupler were simply delightful. We’re talking billowing snow up into your face… in December. After shredding hard all day, the place to be was the Derailer Bar at the Mary Jane base area for a New Belgium Mary Jane Ale and some fried pickles. If these are the conditions in early December, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store.
