Here’s a sneak-peek at Faction Skis’ next big project

For three consecutive seasons, Faction produced arguably the best “team edits” in skiing, dubbed We Are The Faction Collective. As the Verbier, Switzerland-based brand built its stable of skiers—which now includes the likes of Candide Thovex, Adam Delorme, Sam Anthamatten, Johnny Collinson, Tim McChesney, Kelly Sildaru and so many more—the short films provided an ideal outlet to showcase the talents of the athletes, ultimately bolstering the strength of Faction as a whole. And when the series concluded in April of 2016, many skiers were left thinking, “Damn, we’ll miss that. What comes next?”

Today, we have the answer for you, along with a new teaser from Faction.

We’re excited to announce that Faction’s next big project will come to you in the form of a full-fledged, feature-length film, set to release this fall. The film falls squarely into the category of “team movie,” and the concept revolves around visiting the athletes’ home mountains and resorts. This marks Faction’s first foray into the realm of feature-length filmmaking. Yet, given the company’s success in the video department of late, it’s safe to regard this piece as one of the most anticipated of the year.

FREESKIER is also thrilled to announce it will serve as the official media partner of Faction’s new release; we’ll be your go-to source for behind-the-scenes content including photo, video, and live, on-site coverage of film shoots, plus athlete interviews and in-depth articles surrounding the film.

Production of Faction’s film began in 2016 and is expected to continue through the late spring. As aforementioned, Faction’s film crews will be spending time in and around the team skiers’ home resorts. As a preview of what’s to come, we’ve embedded a fresh teaser, above.

Starring Tim McChesney, Alex Hall, Antti Ollila and Daniel Hanka, this new edit takes us to Jyväskylä, Finland (stomping grounds of Ollila, the Olympian and celebrated Finnish skier), where we witness the foursome scouring the streets for urban skiing possibilities. The footage is dated December, 2016. We catch a few glimpses of insane skiing action throughout this piece, in addition to hefty slams and also candid lifestyle footage. It’s the sort of compilation that gives you unique insight into how your favorite skiers go about their skiing and also how they spend down time—you’re made to feel as if you’re along for the ride, and what could be better than that?

To complement the video, and to further provide an example of the sorts of coverage we’ll bring you to tease this film in the coming months, we leave you with a smattering of images from Faction’s shoot in Finland. Stay tuned for more, folks—coming soon.

Another spot bagged for Alex Hall. Hall probably hit an average of two spots per day on this shoot, every day for three weeks straight. Martin Bernard gets the shot with his assistant for the day, Daniel Hanka, alongside.

Daniel Hanka with a “backslide” outside of a school near Jyväskylä—shot late at night. It took him quite a few tries to nail this one, and it was a pretty scary feature to hit as it needed a lot of speed to get from end to end. After a few hours of sessioning there, a quick McDonald’s drive-thru stop helped the crew regain some strength, and Hanka finally put it down. Photo by Alric Ljunghager

Another long, late-night session. The crew enjoyed pizzas that night. This feature is located near another school in Jyväskylä, but this particular school is abandoned. This is a highly technical feature, here, and Ollila makes it look easy. Effortless style and amazing control and technique. Photo by Alric Ljunghager
