Level 1, the legendary Denver-based production house, delivered an instant classic in their 2024 movie “Wasteland.” While the film is not as long as previous annual projects, it is nevertheless a beautiful demonstration of working with change, instead of against it. Founder Josh Berman handed the reigns over to Owen Dahlberg and Andrew Mildenberger for this one, and to say the two directors did Berman’s legacy justice would be an understatement.
The film carries us from the far reaches of Alaska to the streets of the East Coast, and several places in between. Featuring Jonah Williams, Jake Mageau, Harald Hellstrom, Anni Karava, Parker White, Lucas Wachs, Oscar Weary, Taylor Brooke Lundquist, Chris Logan, and Dakota Connole in front of the lens, we’re treated to a wide variety of terrain and style that is nothing short of sensational.
While other production companies have shown that they intend to stick with tried and true formulas, Level 1 continues to set the example for creativity in action sports films. It’s incredible to see an industry staple evolve in a way that both pays homage to what has been and welcomes in a new generation of skiers and cinematographers. So turn down the lights and crank your sound system because “Wasteland” is another notch in an already storied belt. What more is there to say? Roll it!
