Scott Gaffney is 55 Years Young and Still Sending in 2024 Season Edit

Scott Gaffney’s 2024 season edit is incredible. The fact that the storied film director and cinematographer is 55 years old and ripping this hard makes it even better. In the real world, Gaffney isn’t old in the slightest. But in the world of freeskiing, where age is compared in relationship to backflips and 20-foot cliffs, he’s certainly one of the more experienced individuals still hucking.

Mostly shot at Palisades Tahoe, this edit clocks in at just under 10 minutes, which is a staggering amount of footage with minimal filler found throughout. Big salute to Gaffney for continuing to push freeskiing in every way, from personal strides to cinematic marvels (His work on “Circle of Madness” helped earn the project Film of The Year at iF3 recently!) We can’t wait to see what he gets up to this winter.

From YouTube:

You didn’t ask for it, but you’re getting it: another annual installment of Fossil Freeskier (55 now) Skis Down and Jumps Off of Stuff: ’24 Edition!”

Despite tweaking each knee on separate occasions which stripped me of a couple of months and forced me to keep things fairly simple all season (read: no tricking), I had a really fun winter, timing things right on several occasions and scoring a number of Palisades Tahoe classics in pretty stellar conditions.

This is certainly longer than it needs to be, but when it comes right down to it, who knows how many of these I have left? And, as for the second music track, I’ve wanted to edit my ski shots to Tool’s 46 & 2 forever now, but I never felt my footage went hard enough to be worthy. But it dawned on me that I’m not getting any younger. So, even though I used the track for a cliff jumping short (PNW Cliff Huckfest ’24) a few months ago, and even though I could have used any other Tool track, I chose 46 & 2. You’re going to have to live with it.

Thanks to K2, Oakley, GoPro and Wildflour for the continued support.

Enjoy!
