To everyone’s excitement, the 2016 Freeride World Tour (FWT) kicks off on Saturday, January 23. The event, taking place at Vallnord-Arcalís Resort in Andorra, serves as this year’s first of five FWT events on the schedule this season. Per usual, both skiers and snowboarders will take to the big-mountain venue, putting their best runs down the chance to stand atop the podium and snag some prize money.
For those of us unable to attend the event, there will be a live-stream of the competition at www.freerideworldtour.com.
Join us in wishing each of the competitors the best of luck on this year’s circuit. Last season, American George Rodney and Austrian Eva Walkner captured the coveted FWT title. We will be stoked to see how this year’s tour shapes up!

Press Release:
The long period of anticipation is coming to an end as the best freeriders across the world will descend upon the Andorran freeride Mecca in less than 14 days. After an extremely successful event in 2015, freeriders will once again have a chance to put on their best show on the incredible terrain in the Pyrenees that this hidden gem of a ski resort has to offer. New riders and returning champs will compete on this evolving venue that has a rich history of competition originating from the 4* FWQ stop known as El Dorado Freeride.
It is the first time the FWT season opener will be hosted in Andorran resort of Vallnord-Arcalís – the first of five stops on the FWT16 tour. Competitors will have their first opportunity to test their skills this season on the long road to the final competition at the Xtreme Verbier in April.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 23. Spectators and freeride aficionados alike will be able to participate in a festive atmosphere and watch the live competition action at the mountain venue or watch it on a giant screen in the FWT event village with fellow freeride fans. From Friday to Sunday, FWT event village will offer spectators a wide variety of entertainment including a live DJ, food and beverages, events for kids, and the opening ceremony 3:30 pm on Friday, January 22. Skiers and snowboarders will also be able to test the latest gear at the Freeride Test Zone, also being held in the event village on Saturday and Sunday. Other public opening events including an official presentation on Friday and a FWT party on Saturday will take place in the Plaza Major in Ordino.
For those unable to attend the event in person, don’t fret because every moment of the live action will be available on the live webcast on www.freerideworldtour.com. Online viewers will be able to follow the lines of every athlete with the legendary commentator Dave Mailman (USA) and expert freeride analyst Martin Winkler (AUT).
