Halfpipe Qualifier Raw Footage

Today marked the 2nd day of the Winter Dew Tour, which meant insane pipe action over at Breckenridge. While the weather was a bit more cooperative than the blizzard like conditions the day before, Mother Nature still woke up on the wrong side of the bed. The sun peaked out a bit here and there, but the wind gusted up strong enough to knock down some stuff.

With only 35 competitors vying for the coveted 16 spots, the margin for error was a bit more relaxed than slopestyle. The field was absent of pipe heavy hitters, with the exception of Philippi, Margetts and JL, who all qualified highly. As in most open pipe events there was a strong disconnect between the top finishers and the bottom, usually due to the fact that pipe is hard as hell to ski.

Highlights: Matt Philippi looking like he never missed a beat with his injury last year, LJ Strenio not skiing pipe, coming out and qualifying, Byron Wells showing that Jossi isn't the only one that can ski pipe, JL Ratchel going huge, and Matt Margetts throwing switch 10s. During practice, a number of pre-qualified athletes took runs, showing the would-be qualifiers what they'll be up against in a couple days.
