Three hours with a pro – Colby James West.

Colby West has been tearing up the competition scene this year, all over the world. We caught up with Colby, put him the hot seat, and fired off a round of questions that would make a myspace survey buckle at the knees. First, the essentials:

Name: Colby James West
Age: 22

Favorite Cartoon: The Simpsons

Hi Colby, How’s it going?
Not too bad. Finally got to do some skiing today and get some photos after waiting around for good weather for a week or so. It gets pretty stressful when you don’t have anything to do in the rain for a while.

What was your favorite event of this past winter?
I had a great time at all of them. It’s fun that I get to ski a new place every weekend and that all of my friends are at pretty much every event. TJ, Simon, Jon, Jossi, and the Olenick Bros are all great fun when we are on the road. I couldn’t really have asked for a better comp season. I did have a great time at the XGames, though. Tha was probably my favorite. It was my first time there so I didn’t really know what to expect. My friend Stack from home came along with me and we pretty much ate a lot of food and played games on the PS3 in the rider’s lounge. It’s fun in there. Hopefully I get to go back there next year.

What was your greatest accomplishment from this past season?
Well, I think it would have to be my third place finish at the XGames. I don’t think anyone saw it coming, including myself. It was a great mental boost for the rest of the season and it took away a lot of stress at the next few events.

Do you have any big plans for remainder of the season?
Not too much. Just a little filming here and there.

What are your plans for the summer?
Well, if everything works out right, I’ll be going to many places; New Zealand, Argentina, and High North Ski Camp in Whistler. Whistler is always a good time.

Colby, How many licks do you think it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?
I like the owl’s style. 3.

Complete these sentences:

Since becoming a pro skier life has been:
Fun and hectic.

My favorite place to ski is:
Wherever my friends are. But I like when my friends are in Colorado or New Zealand.

I enjoy skiing with:
Stack, Dirty, and all my college friends. Jossi, Byron, Symms, TJ, and all of my pro friends, too.

After skiing, I like to relax with a nice:
Satchel of money like the ones from Disney’s Robin Hood. I’m pretty sure that’s what Danger Dume would say. Plus, I love that movie.

When I’m not skiing, I’m probably:
It seems like if I’m not skiing, I am on a plane on my way to go skiing. But if I don’t really have anywhere to be I’m probably eating, dancing, running, jumping around, or doing pretty much anything that doesn’t require too much sitting still. Except reading. That’s always good.

Currently, I’m stoked on:
Skiing backwards. I love it so much and I probably always will. there is nothing in the world like a freshly groomed trail in the morning. I could ski backwards all day long. I don’t need any jumps, pipes, rails, or powder. Just ask my good buddy Stack.

Currently, I am not stoked on:
The US government.

If I could change one thing about the ski industry, I would:
Get rid of a lot of the hate. There seems to be a lot of it going around. Who cares what people are doing? If you aren’t interested in it…don’t watch it. If you think something is cool, then go support that instead. I’m a big opponent of jealousy. It doesn’t get us anywhere.

If I wasn’t a professional skier, I would be:
In the circus or something. I have a lot of weird little talents.

In ten years, I, Colby West, will probably be:
Still skiing. I hope that I can have a long and successful career. It’s pretty inspirational to see guys like Mike Douglas, Jeremy Jones, Trennon Paynter, and MFM still doing what they love. I’m pretty sure that I will still be able to ski backwards at that age.

I want to give a shout out to:
My mom and dad, and all of my friends at home in the 2bi4 crew. Although I’m not necessarily a part of that gang, I still would like to be affiliated with them.
