2025 FREESKIER Gear Lab Kicks off in Vail

GEAR FROM THE FUTURE: that’s what we’ll be bringing you for the next two weeks as the FREESKIER Gear Lab kicks off in Vail, Colorado. The top ski brands from around the globe have once again entrusted us with testing next year’s gear, and we’re thrilled you’re along for the ride. We’ll be putting over 60 pairs of skis, plus boots and apparel through the wringer with our crew… and the party’s just getting started.

Vail has seen over 250 inches of snow the season, and the mountain is in top-tier condition, filled in and riding well. Countless ski areas in North America could serve as premier gear testing grounds, but Vail brings something special to the table.

The resort offers nearly unparalleled access to wide-open groomers, off-piste action, freeride terrain, glades, cliffs and more. Factor in a group of locals that live and breathe skiing as much as anyone you’ll find, and it’s clear why we’ve decided to head back for another year.

If you think work like this is fun, you’re exactly right. But it takes the right crew. We’ve brought in some of the most passionate riders from the Vail Valley and beyond to help us understand what these skis bring to the table. It’s not an easy job, but nobody said it was supposed to be. From locals with over 20 years of experience skiing Vail to freeride competitors and coaches, our team spans a wide range of talented skiers.

After opening up the test with sunshine and hot laps, we’re ready to settle into a storm cycle. We’ll be breaking out the best pow skis of 2025/26 with waist widths at 108mm and above.
