The inaugural FREESKIER Gear Lab is up and running in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. A brand new project, the Gear Lab is our month-long dive into the best outerwear, boots and, of course, skis. We’re going to give every product a proper outing so that you, our beloved reader, can come into next winter knowing what you’re getting with your hard-earned dollar.
Testing next year’s gear ain’t no spring picnic, no matter what people tell you! During week one of the inaugural FREESKIER Gear Lab, our crew worked tirelessly to test the best of the best all across the massive playground that is Vail Resort. We saw variable conditions throughout the week, from soft afternoon bumps to firm morning groomers with a flurry of fresh snow mixed in. We focused on planks that were between 90mm and 100mm underfoot. This healthy mix gave our testers a chance to put them to work across the hill and get a good feel for where each ski can really thrive.
