Red Gets Radder

Canada’s Red Mountain is known for its deep snow, mellow vibe and truly epic tree skiing. Well, there’s a reason those trees are so sweet, and that’s because the summer staff at Red does their part to keep some of the tighter lines a bit looser. This summer is no exception as the mountain operations staff will be overseeing more than $1 million worth of glading and lift improvements.

These spgrades include an extensive summer brushing and pruning program designed to clean up overgrown areas and open up terrain. The work will enhance advanced and expert tree skiing terrain on the mountain. Areas include Red’s Pale Face Chutes sector of the mountain, where extensive pole-saw work was initiated for the first time. Much of the work commenced in April, for an on-snow start.

In addition, a comprehensive lift-service audit will be undertaken on the resort’s chairlift system, featuring upgrades to chairlift components on Red’s Motherlode, Paradise and Red chairlifts to ensure maximum reliability for the upcoming season.

“The main focus of these upgrades is on the motor controls and communications circuit systems.” says Red’s Maintenance Manager Steve Bourchier. “Modernization of these controls will lead to maximum reliability and ultimately ensuring a superior experience for our guests.”

In other words, you’ll spend more time skiing Red’s legendary trees than being stuck on lifts. Which is a good thing.
