On Hold: These 12 resorts were supposed to open this week but can’t

While October delivered quite a bit of fresh snow to the mountain west, November has been nothing but one long, extended heat wave. Essentially, any base that a resort in California, Utah or Colorado had has now melted, making it extremely difficult for the ski areas to open by their original proposed date. Below, we’ve compiled a list of 12 resorts across the United States that have had to push back their opening day this week. While some have given an amended opening date, others have had to postpone entirely—until Mother Nature decides it’s time to slide on snow.


Heavenly Mountain Resort, CA

Originally planned to open November 19, Heavenly has yet to announce a new opening day.

Northstar California Resort, CA

Originally planned to open November 19, Northstar has yet to announce a new opening day.

Park City Mountain Resort, UT

Originally planned to open November 19, Park City has yet to announce a new opening day.

Brian Head Resort, UT

Originally planned to open November 19, Brian Head has yet to announce a new opening day.

Solitude Mountain Resort, UT

Originally planned to open November 19, Solitude will now open on November 23.

Alta Ski Area, UT

Originally planned to open on November 20, Alta will now open on November 24.

Snowbasin Resort, UT

Originally planned to open November 24, Snowbasin has yet to announce a new opening day.

Steamboat Resort, CO

Originally planned to open November 20, Steamboat will now open on November 27.

Telluride Ski Resort, CO

Originally planned to open November 25, Telluride will now open on December 3.

Arizona Snowbowl, AZ

Originally planned to open November 19, Arizona Snowbowl has yet to announce a new opening day.

Okemo Mountain Resort, VT

Originally planned to open November 20, Okemo has yet to announce a new opening day.

Hunter Mountain, NY

Originally planned to open November 19, Hunter Mountain has yet to announce a new opening day.
