Kings & Queens of Corbet’s 2022 – The fifth annual showdown is set to drop Feb. 12-18

You’ve seen the highlights. You’ve watched the heart stopping runs. Now get ready for another round of Teton madness, as the fifth annual Kings and Queens of Corbet’s is getting ready to rumble from February 12-18, weather permitting. Read on for info about the all new People’s Choice Award, athlete list, and more.

For four years in a row, the good folks at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort have put on one the fastest growing, most popular competitions in skiing; Kings and Queens of Corbet’s. If you’re unfamiliar with the format, it essentially boils down to some of the best skiers and snowboarders in the world chucking themselves off of man made lips at the mouth of the iconic Corbet’s Couloir, which sits near the summit of the JH tram. If the riders stomp the approximately 20 foot plummet towards the earth, they can proceed to the series of jumps that are positioned throughout the couloirs exit, finally arriving at the spectators cheering below. To put it bluntly, it’s f*cking wild in the best possible way.

This year, Kings & Queens will be judged in the same manor as before, but with a new caveat for us, the fans! Now, if you see a run that absolutely blows your socks off, you can make your voice heard with the People’s Choice Award. Vote for your favorite while the event is going down, or after the live stream has finished. Just make sure you get your vote in before midnight on Friday, February 18th, as the People’s Choice will be announced with the overall winner on Saturday, February 19th.

The show is set to return February 12-18, with weather and snow conditions weighing on the event. Ullr has been generous during the competition in past years, with plenty of snow falling before the previous events. As you can imagine, the consequences can be severe when attempting backflips, (or a cork 9 if you’re the reigning champion crazy Karl Fostvedt), on a venue like this; not that there are many venues like this in the world. As such, everyone is yearning for some fresh snow, so that the athletes have a nice bed of white to plop down into. According to Open Snow, JHMR currently sits at about 82% of it’s average snowpack, so we’ll keep an eye on incoming storms moving forward.

But for now, the throw down is a go and the list of invited athletes has been announced! We’ll be seeing returning names like former top dawgs of Corbet’s Karl Fostvedt and Parkin Costain, as well as new comers like Piper Kunst and Molly Armanio. We’ll also be seeing long time Jackson Hole resident and TGR staple Tim Durtschi make his King’s & Queens debut. There are many more exciting athlete’s on this years list, so check out the full list and other exciting details about the event right here, on the JH contest home page.

FREESKIER will be live in Jackson to cover the event, in addition to hosting some of the wildest après parties you’ve ever laid eyes on. We hope to see you there!
