The first thing you need to know about pro skier Kim Boberg is that he grew up in Älvdalen City, Sweden. A small, rural municipality of about 1,800 people, Älvdalen translates to “River Valley” due to its proximity to Österdalälven river, and is known for its manufacturing, mining, motorcycling and metal music.
There’s no skiing in Älvdalen City, whatsoever. But down the road is Kläppen Resort, the place where Boberg learned his way around a pair of skis and worked towards impressive feats like joining the Armada and Oakley teams, and filming with Level 1 Productions, among others. Today, the resort also serves as the venue for Boberg’s very own annual event, Kimbo Sessions, which aims to gather some of the best skiers on Earth for a week of laid-back, no-frills park skiing. And partying.
Here are a few of the things you’ll find at Kimbo Sessions: endless top-name skiers, like Torin Yater-Wallace, Henrik Harlaut, Phil Casabon, Lucas Stål Madison and Colby Stevenson; unique features that inspire creative tricks; and a lot of ear-to-ear grins. Here are a few of the things you won’t find there: bad attitudes; frowns; competitiveness; or anything else even remotely negative. This is one of the most positive, down-home and raw gatherings of skiers out there—hands-down—and the 2017 edition just wrapped up. Browse through a boat-load of media from the event, below, and get familiar with one of skiing’s best-kept secrets.
