With less than a week to the start of the 2025 Kings and Queens of Corbet’s weather window, two-time crowned King of Corbet’s Karl Fostvedt announces he’s withdrawing from the competition. By the looks of his social media announcement, it seems like this departure may not just be for this year’s event, but from the competition entirely.

“At this point, I’ve won the contest three times on the ski side and I’m the only two-time King of the couloir,” Fostvedt writes in his social media post announcing his withdrawal. “I’m feeling content with what I’ve accomplished.”

The Kings and Queens of Corbet’s competition first came to be in 2018 and Karl Fostvedt will always hold the title as the first-ever King of Corbet’s. A staple competitor every year since, Fostvedt has managed to snag the crown twice overall with a third win on the ski side—beating out Olympians, X Games medalists and Freeride World Tour champions.

“Skiing has always been about the adventure,” Fostvedt writes in that same social media post. “One of my favorite things in life is searching for new zones to ski. There are so many more cornices and other natural features out there waiting to get shredded. I’m so excited to continue the treasure hunt, and keep searching for the world’s best zones to FKN SNDR!”

Fostvedt also makes it clear in his announcement that he’s not withdrawing from competitions entirely—he just has his sights set on a backcountry arena. With the announcement of a ski division of Natural Selection this year, we can’t help but feel like maybe this is Fostvedt’s way of saying he’d like an invite? Wink Wink.
