Cordova based Points North Heli-Adventures (PNH) last year obtained a "non-motorized ski touring permit" from the U.S. Forest Service, the first of its kind in the Chugach Range. As a result, skiers are currently making tracks for the very first time (both up, and down) in the new permitted ski touring zone. Those who join PNH now and in the coming weeks will have the opportunity to help name the new zone.
In its first season, the PNH heli-touring program is offering four sessions: March 18-24, March 25-31, April 1-7 and April 8-14. PNH accommodates groups of four or eight on the touring missions, and the price for five days of skiing (+ a weather day) comes out to $1,950. Included in the package are four nights/five days (six nights of lodging in total), all meals, transportation, a guide and packer, one heli-drop and one heli-pick up.
Brennan Lagasse of Unofficial Networks recently returned from a week in the field, and reports conditions as "stable, bluebird, and bottomless!"
