Beaver Creek opens for the season

Beaver Creek resort opened for the 2009-2010 season today, November 25, 2009. The Centennial Express lift served intermediate skiing and riding on Latigo trail, and the Buckaroo Express gondola provided access to beginner terrain on Haymeadow. Single digit temperatures and consistent snowmaking efforts provided great skiing and riding all day.
Kallista, age 8, and her family were visiting from Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Thanksgiving holiday. After a week of snowmobiling and ice skating, she said her favorite activity so far was skiing. The Worlds Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition took place in the village at 2 pm, and Kallista was able to taste the five finalist’s recipes and participate in the vote to determine which cookie will be served all season.
The Lumberyard terrain park was also open to the public, with numerous boxes and rails. 22 year-old Jake Strasman of Dillon, Colorado, was at Beaver Creek for the day with a big crew of friends, filming and shooting photos. Originally from Minnesota, Jake said there was a “really great setup for the first day. All the features are dialed in, but my favorite is the c-rail. “
Skiers and riders first in line for the chairlift were given EPIC beanies to celebrate the start of the season. Great snow, a variety of events, and an impressive terrain park contributed to the great vibe on the mountain and in the village. For more information on the EPIC pass, visit www.EpicPass.com.
