Since you’re already dressing up for Halloween, why not add some skis and poles to your costume? Head over to Snowmass this Thursday night and get Halloween and the ski season started off early with the 1st Annual Jack-O-Lantern Jib competition. According to the Aspen Skiing Company, costumes are “encouraged,†but I say they’re absolutely mandatory! Who goes to a Halloween-themed rail jam with no costume? That’s like venturing into the Alaskan wilderness, naked.
You may be asking: how does Aspen have enough snow to put on such a spectacular event? Well, at the end of last season, the geniuses at Aspen/Snowmass decided they would save some snow from the 2007-08 season, using unimaginable snow-blanket technology. That’s right, you’ll be skiing on snow from last season! So hop in your Delorean and gun it to 2007, Aspen’s taking you back in time baby!
Not only with this event award your skiing talents, but there will also be a “Best Costume†category. Aspen’s own D&E Ski and Snowboard Shop, and other Aspen/Snowmass partners, will supply all of the amazing prizes for the winners! Registration will take place around 5PM at the Private Lesson Lounge at Snowmass and the event will run from 6 to 7PM. Look forward to a few features including a box and a rail or two. Spectators get in FREE and competition registration only costs $15.
Aspen, blowing it out

Whether you’re 22 or 15, this rail jam will be the perfect way to get you stoked for the season to come and to put you in the Halloween spirit one day early!
But it doesn’t end there. Mark your calendars for November 27— Thanksgiving and Aspen’s Opening Day! What a perfect combination: snow, skiing, and some home-cooked goodness. There’s a whole lot to be thankful for.
