Armada invades NZ Part II

Armada invades NZ Part II

Words and Photos by OC

After a few days of surfing and no more waves in the forecast, it was time to move on to Wanaka and get serious about skiing. JP and Julien drove in 6 hours from Christchurch to meet up with Tanner, TJ and Jacob at the Armada house in Wanaka.

Snowpark had a snowboarding contest going on and there was some fresh snow, so it was time to check out the other resorts in the Wanaka area. Treble Cone was reporting 70 centimeters of snow our first day there, so we made tracks at 6am up to TC just to find out that someone had a bad measuring stick up at TC. It was about 20cms at most and the locals were really upset by this. We still had a ton of fun, but the place was packed, total mob scene, because everyone was thinking it was the best day of the year. It was a beautiful sunny day with some fresh pow, so we skied all day and competed with the crowds to get some freshies. We met up with a bunch of locals and everyone was stoked! We hiked to the top of the mountain and jumped a couple small cliffs. JP busted out his signature back flip and the crowd of on lookers went nuts for the old school antics.

The next day we went to Cardrona and checked out the park and pipe up there. We also poked around to see if there was any snow left, but it was all gone bye bye. TJ and JP did some sick doubles in the pipe and we also tested out some top secret new ski weapons which you may be hearing about really soon.

The Armada house was the place to be at night if you dig watching the days footage and all the latest ski vids. Oh yeah, did I mention you have to watch them on your Mac computer, because that seems to be the cool thing to have if you are a pro skier.

Next Stop: SNOWPARK! Check back for news soon.
