The 2015 Park City Grand Prix slopestyle final went down this afternoon; a great day of competition culminated with an absolutely spectacular finish.

On the third and final run of the men’s final, we saw local boy McRae Williams bag a personal high score of an even 90.0. His run consisted of a right 630 out of the first rail feature; a switch 450 onto the next; a misty 450 out of the high bar; a switch right double cork 10 safety and a switch left double cork 1440 tail to close. For a time, he held the lead.

Then, moments later, Gus Kenworthy, who’d struggled on his first two runs, skied his way to an 89.0 which would hold for bronze. Kenworthy’s podium result comes less than one week since he took home a big win at the Air + Style contest in Pasadena, CA.

Finally, in dramatic fashion, Park City’s own Joss Christensen stood at the top of the course—he would be the last man to drop. Having failed to secure a high score via his first two attempts, the Olympic gold medalist stomped one heck of a run, scoring a 92.0, good for gold, locking down the US sweep of the podium.

Christensen’s winning run consisted of a 270 on 270 off the first rail feature; a switch right 270, pretzel 2 out of the next; a switch left 270 on, pretzel 450 out of the high bar; and then a left double cork 1260 double Japan on jump one, with a switch right double cork 1080 safety to close. Christensen took gold at this same event one year ago; the win ultimately propelled him to Olympic gold. Christensen was ecstatic to have defended the Grand Prix title on his home turf.

On the women’s side, Swedish ripper and 2015 X Games slopestyle gold medalist, Emma Dahlström, took the top spot while Devin Logan placed second, and Tiril Sjåstad Christiansen finished third.

Dahlström skied her way to the top via smooth, stylish performance on the rails. Her fluid skiing was matched on the jumps, where she put a right 5 safety and a switch left 7 tail to her feet.

Dahlström was extremely complimentary of her competitors, calling this Grand Prix lineup “the toughest field [of the] year.”

Logan, one of the most consistent competitors among the females, in both slopestyle and halfpipe, secured her high score on her third and final run. Norway’s Sjåstad Christiansen returned to competition for the first time following knee surgery; her strong performance at this early stage in her recovery is promising.
