Another year has passed and FREESKIER’s Photo Annual is in the hands of the masses once again. It’s easy to measure time according to the cycles that surround us—minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, seasons. Lest we forget the miles traveled, adventures had and shutters clicked.
The life of a ski photographer may seem glamorous. And sure, it is to an extent. But the hard work put forth by our contributing photogs goes largely unnoticed. Oftentimes, bagging that perfect shot is the culmination of detailed planning, time spent in brutal weather and snow conditions, skiers’ natural talents and so much more. The result is something we should never take for granted; these images transport us from the comfort of a couch or a desk chair into the streets, parks and mountains that we love. In the hustle and bustle of our day-to-day schedules, perhaps we should be so lucky as to find an image that makes us stop in our tracks, and just for a moment, forget about everything else.
