You probably know of Japan’s legendary snowfall. Yes, the northern island of Hokkaido sees staggering amounts of snow each year. And yes, it’s a skiers paradise, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about today. Koga Hoshino is bringing recognition to another area of Japan’s riding: street skiing. As the snow melts and buildings, sidewalks and rails are once again discovered, the cityscapes reveal endless creative possibilities.
In the fourth episode of Faction’s Raw Series, we follow Hoshino as he takes us around the creative spots he has discovered in an edit that’s aptly titled “MIND.” We follow him on elevated rails, down flat downs, wall rides—you name it, he’s hitting it. The countryside and towns are dotted with industrial buildings that serve as the perfect canvas for Hoshino’s craft. Tune in to the unique world of Japanese street skiing, and don’t forget to watch Koga Hoshino in Faction’s 2023 film, “Abstract: A Freeski Exhibition.”
