The Faction Collective’s Fourth Feature Film “Abstract: A Freeski Exhibition” is a Creative Success

What do we consider art, and does skiing get included in the conversation? It’s a great question posed in the opening minutes of the latest Faction Collective film. It’s easy to lean into either side of the argument. Many will either tell you that skiing is A. adrenaline-fueled insanity, or B. artfully inspired and tactical creative expression. Like almost anything else, the answer is somewhere in the middle. “Abstract: A Freeski Exhibition” dives into this discussion by following Faction’s team, which consists of some of the best freeskiers on the planet. Artists or adrenaline junkies? It’s a mix of both. But that’s how all the best art seems to come around.

We get to see how the creative juices give rise to all sorts of riding throughout the film. Alex Hall, Koga Hoshino and friends take to the streets in Japan in a unique street segment unlike one you’ve seen before. We see the legendary backcountry crew of Tim McChesney, Blake Wilson, Mac Forehand and Duncan Adams take on the Utah backcountry (keep an eye out for a MASSIVE rodeo 720 from Mac, the IF3 nominated Standout Male Skier of the Year.) There are British Columbia pillow lines torn up by Micah Evangelista, Brooklyn Bell, Sophia Rouches and Vasu Sojitra. Even on one leg, Sojitra skis these daunting lines better than most of us could ever hope to. And all this is just the beginning.

Around the globe, this talented team shows that it’s not what you’re skiing that matters but how you ski it. Enjoy one of the best films of the year from the powerhouse, The Faction Collective.

From Faction:

Skiing is not art, and skiers are not artists. Unless, of course, skiing is art and skiers are artists? Faction’s fourth feature film exhibits pure creativity through a series of freeski sequences—from the vibrant streets of Japan, to the powdery pillows of British Columbia, to the finely-manicured terrain parks of Switzerland and Italy. Each location provides a blank canvas for the team’s artistic expression. Because nothing screams “artist” like sending large cliffs and grinding the side of buildings.
