Most people would say you’re crazy for not hanging up the skis by May, but you aren’t most people. The lifts are still spinning across North America and you, dear reader, haven’t let go of ski season. We don’t blame you. In fact, we’re damn inspired by you. That’s why we put together FREESKIER’s official list of our favorite ski resorts that will be open for business this Memorial Day Weekend. Grab those jeans, a couple cold ones, lather on the sunscreen and rally the crew, because we’re going skiing.
Timberline Lodge, Oregon
Closing Day: May 26, 2025
Summer Operations Open: June 1 (est.)
The famous Timberline Lodge on the volcano never disappoints. Mount Hood is lucky enough to boast year-round snow, and with the Palmer Lift now open, the snowfield is at your disposal. The weather looks good for the weekend at Hood. It’s been slightly colder than normal (keeping conditions solid) with sunshine and minimal clouds right on time for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Mt. Bachelor, Oregon
Closing Day: May 26, 2025
If Hood isn’t on your radar for Memorial Day Weekend, no problem, we’ve got another Oregon spot for you. Mt. Bachelor has had a great season, and the mountain ops team is preparing for a stellar closing weekend. The fine folks at Woodward have kept the park in tip-top shape. Arc a groomer, grease a rail and then head on down to the pond skim on Monday, May 26 at 11 AM. With live music included, it’s sure to be an epic send-off.
Mammoth Mountain, California
Closing Date: As Long as Conditions Allow (early June est.)
Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last month, chances are the pink rails, open slopes and blue skies of Mammoth have made their way onto your social feed. It’s as picturesque as spring skiing gets, and with the recently announced extended season, it’s only getting better. If you’re feeling ambitious, hit the Mammoth triple-header this weekend: bike, ski and golf. All three are now offered at the resort, so get it while you can!
Palisades Tahoe, California
Closing Date: May 26, 2025
The self-proclaimed “Spring Skiing Capital” has a big reputation to live up to. Good thing Palisades Tahoe exceeds the hype! This is the final hoorah for the California staple, and what a season it’s been. With just under 350″ of snow this year, the resort is still skiing incredibly well, especially for closing weekend. Open Snow is calling for temps around 55°F Friday through Monday, making Palisades a top option for holiday weekend ripping if you can swing it!
Snowbird, Utah
Closing Date: May 26, 2025
Like many others on this list, The Bird will be calling it a season this weekend. As pictured below, Little Cottonwood Canyon has had a cold spring, with that pow shot being taken just last weekend. The Tram and Peruvian Express will be spinning from 8 AM until 2 PM, while Little Cloud and Mineral Basin will be open until 1 PM and 1:30 PM, respectively. Individual live music acts are slated for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Show up and show out, Salt Lake! All the closing weekend info you need can be found right here.
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, Colorado
Closing Date: As Long as Conditions Allow
The Legend didn’t hear no bell, as they say! It’s been a cold couple of weeks at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, but there’s a reason they call it May-Basin. The Lenawee and Black Mountain Express lifts are still in business, with 26 runs up for grabs this weekend. Spring weather is always a bit variable at 12,000 feet, so we recommend getting there early and preparing for an afternoon storm. That being said, the mountain is still filled in and riding great. There’s no better place to be on Memorial Day Weekend than the famous Abay Beach in the main parking lot.
Arizona Snowbowl, Arizona
Closing Date: June 1, 2025
Skiing in June… in Arizona? Yes, Arizona Snowbowl is on pace for its longest season in the resort’s 87-year history. The record-setting winter is continuing for the next two weekends, and Memorial Day should be a good one under Mount Humphreys. The base area will be in full swing with live music and other activities. It’s not often you get to make turns in Arizona in the spring!
