DISCLAIMER: The 2021 FREESKIER Ski Test is being held under strict Covid-19 protocols, ensuring everyone has tested negative for the virus, wears a mask and physically distances from others involved in the event.
Day two of Ski Test went off without a hitch, as the testers lathered on the sunscreen and headed out for the open hills of Ajax Mountain. An absolutely cloudless sky made for some warmer skiing—sun-baked bumps, jumps and groomers the perfect canvas. While everyone can agree that a stormy day of powder-filled turns is the most coveted ski experience, it is undoubtedly true that bluebird skiing brings out an equally satisfying vibe; there’s nothing quite like skiing when the sun is shining high in the sky. The stoke was incredibly high and beloved local photographers Tamara Susa and Matt Power were on-site to capture it all.
Today, our ripping group tested out the final batches of the remaining 85 -100 millimeter skis in the morning. The hot lapping and side hitting madness was in full force, and continued well into the afternoon. Once those baddies were tested and reviews written, our gang moved onto the all-mountain workhorse group—some of the most versatile skis in the test —featuring planks with 101-110 millimeter waists. Wider underfoot, this collection allowed the crew to get a little more dicey: The Hollywood hit under Ajax Express saw plenty of action, just ask the high flying mullet-marauder, ski tester Ian Doherty. But, as time usually passes when one is having a blast, the day ended as quickly as it had begun. After skiing their hearts out, the gang was understandably exhausted, but hungry for day three. More fun in the sun, here we come.
