The inaugural Sean Jordan Open went down this past Saturday at Pennsylvania’s Big Boulder, and spectators saw 80 athletes throw down in the open style event, with Sean Jordan, Jon Brogan, Doug Bishop, and Scott Hibbert standing in as judges.

In the open category, Big Boulder local Casey Arnold took home first place, Connecticut native Scott Nelson took second, and Quebec’s Dominic Laporte landed in third. Ryan Stevenson won the grom category and Jackie Kling made the ladies proud, taking home the win in the female category. Here’s what the event’s founder Sean Jordan had to say:

“There were blue skies and cold weather for the first annual Sean Jordan Open. We had roughly 70 competitors between an open category, a grom category, and women’s category. The slopestyle course was top to bottom of Boulder park consisting of a down flat down rail to start, into a flat ledge/up tube option, into 3 jumps at 30, 40, and 50 feet, followed by a wall ride/gap to down option, into a 3 option of a down elbow rail, a barrel bonk, and a down rail. When the competitors saw the course, their expectations were surpassed with the dedication and hard work of the Big Boulder Park Crew clearly showing in the features.

The competition got underway around 11 a.m. after registration and some practice. We had 4 judges for the event that were spread throughout the course that included myself, Jon Brogan, Scott Hibbert, and Doug Bishop. After running through a 2 run qualifier, a 2 run final, and long deliberation in the park lodge for our top 3, it came down to Dom Laporte (QC) in 3rd, Scott Nelson (VT) in 2nd and Big Boulder local Casey Arnold taking the top spot. Two other boulder locals took top honors as well. Ryan Stevenson, someone’s name you will definitely hear in the future, took 1st in the grom category and Jackie Kling rounded out the top of the Womens category.

All in all, everyone who came out, skier or spectator, enjoyed themselves with a great course, wonderful weather, food and drink, and good times at Big Boulder Park. This event will only become bigger and better, so look out!”
