Happy New Year from Freeskier Magazine!
The ball just dropped in Times Square, Dick Clark is somewhere being hermetically sealed into some sort of hyperbaric chamber and we’re rolling into one of the best early seasons ever here back East. I know what you’re thinking… Yes, Freeskier is based out of Boulder, Colorado. I’m back home for two weeks celebrating the holiday and roaming New England for snow. Think of it as a bit of a reunion tour.
After unwrapping gifts and emptying out my stocking (thanks for the toothbrush, Santa) I made the 211 mile drive from Warwick, Rhode Island to Sunday River. As a longtime local of “The Rivah†I can honestly say that I’ve never seen this much snow this time of the year. On my first day back in almost two years I was greeted with over a foot of snow. Most of my time was spend shredding old hotspots not located on the trail map with old co-workers, friends and even some Freeskier comqmunity members. Unfortunately, I wasn’t riding with my digicam and I don’t have photos of the freshies. I’ll have to pester a couple of friends to post those up and attach them to this story. What I did post is a day after the storm, we were still finding plenty of fresh snow and great conditions during one of the best Decembers on record.
Hopefully you’re celebrating 2008 with friends, family and snow. Winter is here, get out there and ride!
