When it comes to après-ski parties, there are few better shows than a full-on rock concert. In Jackson Hole during FREESKIER’s annual Ski Test, we brought out the big guns and invited local hair metal cover band, 86, to hop on the stage at the Mangy Moose and bring the crowd to a new level of head banging. Featuring covers of songs by Bon Joni, Guns N’Roses, Poison and more—and the wardrobe to match—86 put on a show that literally had beers flying through the audience. With blazing guitar solos, mullet wigs, leather jackets and (probably) a sponsorship from Sex Panther cologne, 86 gave the people in attendance one hell of a show.
But rock’n’roll wasn’t the only thing on our minds—Bret and Chet, two FREESKIER representatives who epitomize hair metal vibes, hopped on stage during the set break to dish out a slew of free gear to the Mangy Moose audience. Included in the giveaway were Pit Viper sunglasses, Skida beanies, goggles from Anon, an Arc’teryx backpack and more. But that wasn’t the last of it. Chet and Bret also had two pairs of skis to giveaway and $500 in cash from Music in the Mountains sponsor, ZYN. So those boys brought up seven of the “best dressed” audience members and left it to the room to decide the winner. With roaring applause and cheers, Sherrie, an 86 groupie dressed to the nines in retro garb, took the prize. A true winner.
