FREESKIER is bringing the jams to a mountain town near you. Music in the Mountains is all about getting that buzz only live music can bring and we’re proud to announce that the six-stop concert tour, presented by ZYN, will feature some of the biggest names in music, including The Motet, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Dopapod, Big Something and more.
We know that all too often, the live music scene is lacking in mountain towns. This year we’re on a mission to bring the heat to some of our favorite ski communities in the Rocky Mountain West. We’re lining up six incredible shows, and in addition to showcasing amazing bands, we’ll be giving away a ton of FREE gear and lift tickets at every stop. About the performers:
KARL DENSON’S TINY UNIVERSE
Singer and saxophonist Karl Denson fronts the Tiny Universe as if he’s preaching the gospel. His energy and spirit are contagious while his songwriting serves a larger message of fellowship—across generations, genders, religions and cultures. Highly regarded as one of the best live acts on the planet, KDTU distills the sweeping stylistic range of its concert performances into their own authentic sound featuring Denson and his long-standing seven piece unit. To aid him in his mission, Denson tapped some of his legendary friends, including The Rolling Stones’ keyboardist and Allman Brothers Band alum Chuck Leavell, guitar-slinging singer-songwriter Lukas Nelson, New Orleans guitar hero Anders Osborne, Austin producer and guitarist Adrian Quesada and NOLA R&B royal Ivan Neville. Along with KDTU, Denson serves as the touring saxophonist with The Rolling Stones, while continuing to hold down his role as a founding member of the seminal funk band, The Greyboy Allstars.
BIG SOMETHING
Fusing elements of rock, pop, funk, and improvisation, Big Something takes listeners on a journey through a myriad of musical styles. It’s no secret why this group has quickly become one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the Southeast. Huge rhythms paired with soaring guitars, E.W.I (electronic wind instrument), synths, horns and alluring vocal hooks rise to the top of their infectious collection of songs and represent a sound that has landed the band marquee appearances at Bonnaroo, Peach Music Festival, Lock’n, Summer Camp and Electric Forest as well as critical acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Guitar World, Glide Magazine and Jambase. With six full-length studio albums produced by Grammy-nominee John Custer, and even their own Summer music festival The Big What?, the band has carved out their own niche in the live music community and continues to grow nationally with sold out headlining performances throughout the United States.
DOPAPOD
Symmetry defines Dopapod. The band and each of its seven albums sports a palindromic name, meaning it can be read the same forward as backward. More than that, balance has become the band’s modus operandi, with the group consciously juggling the darker tones of heavy rock with lighthearted humor; synthesizing tastes of funk, jazz, bluegrass, electronica, and more within their complex improvisational compositions. During live shows, Dopapod is known for taking fans on a full-out journey, guiding attendees through periods of frenzied dance contrasted with moments of thoughtful contemplation.

Plain and simple, they have the look and sound that sends fists to the air, undergarments to the stage, and high school class presidents to juvenile detention centers. MADDY O’NEAL
Maddy O’Neal has been catching the eyes and ears of music fans around the world with her tasteful versatility and mixing style. Hailing from Denver, Maddy O’Neal has carved out her niche in the always changing and very diverse electronic genre. Maddy’s rock n’ roll family roots and growing appetite for old-school hip-hop, give her a sound that sets her apart from other artists in the scene. It’s this versatility, paired with her meticulous ear and effortless mixing style that allows Maddy to connect with her audience. Self-taught, Maddy incorporates influences from the entire spectrum. Maddy’s productions and original sets are full of melodic overtones, driven basslines and jazzy hip-hop.
MANIC FOCUS
Manic Focus is the musical conception of John “JmaC” McCarten, a music producer from the Twin Cities. Combining original beats with vocal samples from all types of genres, Manic Focus is a musical experience like none other. From fast paced, melodic grooves to down tempo dub, Manic Focus is a fresh, new electronic sound that energizes the party and excites the crowd. With a classically trained ear and over a decade of self-taught, beat making experience, Manic Focus tracks bang with the best of them with complex, original melodies and pulsating bass lines. Manic Focus spans a wide range of genres, and appeals to an incredibly wide audience, getting people from a variety of backgrounds to groove to one rhythm. The vocal samples compliment one another to create a single, cohesive message unique from any other producer, DJ, or mash-up artist.
