FREESKIER conquers Jackson Hole’s “GoPro Steep and Deep Camp”

This past week, in collaboration with GoPro, our favorite Wyoming-based resort presented the first go-round of its annual “Steep and Deep” ski camps. Top notch rippers from around the globe joined together at the iconic Jackson Hole to explore the incredible terrain the resort has to offer, while receiving instruction from expert coaches including 2014 Skier of the Year winner and all-around badass, Lynsey Dyer. Participants (myself included) gained terrain, backcountry and point of view camera education from the pros, while documenting (our) experiences via GoPro. The results? Unrivaled, to say the least.

With the help of four GoPro employees and POV skiing master Mr. Andrew Whiteford, attendees polished their skiing all day and then reviewed and edited clips in the evening—learning how to efficiently utilize hours of footage.

Over the four day camp, skiers saw all aspects of weather and terrain. From day one’s bluebird groomer turns on The Grand, to day two’s backcountry boot pack, to day four’s final pow shots in Casper Bowl, Jackson’s first Steep and Deep camp of the season was an absolute banger. Thanks to Lynsey, Andrew and the rest of the coaching staff at Jackson Hole, each and every skier was able to explore a fraction of the never-ending gems at the massive resort. Also, thanks to the provided support of the GoPro staff, each camper improved their talents in the editing room, making us look damn good while we navigated Wyoming’s extreme landscape.

My JHMR “GoPro Steep and Deep” footage.

JHMR’s GoPro Steep and Deep camp marked my first adventure in Jackson Hole. I can say without a doubt that I will be back for a whole lot more of that action. Crossing Jackson off of my bucket list has been an honor—cheers to everyone for such a badass and eye-opening experience.
