There’s a plaque on the wall of the FREESKIER office engraved with the names of the annual Skier of the Year victors. Every year, two engravings are made, but this go-round there are four new inscriptions.
From its inception in 2009, the coveted Skier of the Year title has been awarded solely by you, the reader. Now, for the first time, our SOTY winners have been chosen by a group of their peers—an honor of the highest degree. To be sure our fans’ voices don’t go unheard, we’ve kept the People’s Choice Award alongside the Riders’ Poll, and thus, we celebrate four individuals for their outstanding performance during the 2013-14 season.
We called upon the sport’s biggest names and asked them to rank the 10 skiers they felt had the best 2013-14 season. We left the definition of “best season” open to interpretation but asked the pros to consider all factors from film parts, to contest results, online edits and overall impact. More than 100 top-name pros cast their votes, securing this award as one of the greatest distinctions in skiing.
And the 2014 winners are…
FREESKIER nominated 20 deserving men and 10 worthy women to battle for the People’s Choice crown. More than 37,000 votes were cast in the course of two weeks, solidifying the victors’ status as certified badass and the 2014 people’s champion.
And the winners are…
Please join us in congratulating Christensen, Monod, Kenworthy and Dyer. The 2014 Skier of the Year winners are profiled in FREESKIER magazine Volume 17.6. The issue mailed to subscribers beginning on December 19; it hits newsstands and iTunes newsstand on January 10, 2015.
