During the 2015 SIA Snow Show in Denver, the Colorado Convention Center was abuzz with news from the Fischer Skis booth. Fischer’s Profoil Skins, which are now available for the 2015-16 ski season, are utilizing some interesting new innovations. The lightweight skins (made with a waterproof plastic) impart a fish-scale pattern, which the brand calls Crown Tech, that is aimed at upping the grip factor, as well as allowing the user to glide faster than with traditional skins. Time is usually of the essence when moving in the backcountry, so this is surely a highlight of the product. Additionally, the Profoil is 100 percent waterproof; while traditional skins can often become soaked—and therefore heavy—after extended use in the snow, the Profoil remains lightweight regardless of how much trail breaking you’re doing.
The crew at FREESKIER is excited to further explore this new product innovation this season. Snow has begun to blanket the country, and backcountry shredders have already begun to get after it outside the resort boundaries. With the backcountry season close to being in full swing, keep the Fischer Profoil Skins on your list if you’re in need of a new pair of gliders.
