Kästle skis were born 100 years ago in Anton Kästle’s workshop in Hohenems, Austria. Over the past century, racers on Kästles have bagged countless podiums thanks to the brand’s dedication to crafting performance race skis and the new MX88 is bred from that race heritage—it is a frontside carver that charges through corduroy with maximum stability. The MX88 comes flat or with Kästle’s pre-mounted Superflex Base plate and excels at laying down GS arcs with just a bit of rocker in the tip and a whole lot of camber throughout the rest of the ski.
“The MX88 feel as if they were bolted to the snow—when you lean them over into a carve, the edge feels solid even in icy conditions,” one of our testers said. “The camber and sidecut allows you to use all of the ski while carving, which lends confidence.”The major evolution in the 2024-25 MX88 is the expansion of Kästle’s Hollowtech to cover most of the shovel of the ski. This has the desired effect of both saving weight and reducing chatter.
“The set of tracks you lay down with these skis is the set of tracks that everyone wants to create on the corduroy,” another tester said. “Not only does this ski carve like a mad man, but it is light and versatile enough to take into all conditions and any pitch on the mountain.” The MX88’s fast grip shovel and tail puts the contact points at the widest part of the tip and tail resulting in responsive and precise turns when digging trenches all over the frontside. To cap it all off, the fiery new topsheet brings some fresh aesthetic flare to the MX88, a stark departure from previous white versions of the ski.
