Editor’s Picks: Apparel & Accessories

Take a close-up look at the gear we’re stoked about for Winter 2024-25.

Blackstrap Summit Hooded

The men’s Summit Hooded top is the lifeblood for getting after it—tailor-made for every day rippers who demand the highest quality in comfort, versatility and durability. Featuring a regular fit, mid-weight four-way stretch fabric, contoured hood, drop hem design, thumb holes and vented armpits, it’s an undeniably comfortable layer that allows ample movement.

ARVA Mini 15+ Avy Pack

Minimal size, maximum safety—that’s ARVA’s motto for its latest airbag backpack. The Mini15+ is designed to work well for smaller body types and adventures into avalanche terrain when you might not need to pack too many supplies (sidecountry missions, cat skiing, etc.). The airbag is powered with Arva’s Reactor 2.0 system, which runs on a 4.5-pound carbon canister of compressed air. When you do find yourself needing a bit more capacity, one of the two compartments expands to provide an extra 5 liters of storage.

ARVA EVO BT Beacon

The EVO BT is a triple-antenna beacon that places emphasis on simplicity when you need it most. The transceiver scans a 60-meter search strip, allows you to mark multiple burials and utilizes motion detection to automatically return to transmit mode if it senses the user has stopped searching, potentially having been caught in a secondary avalanche. Additionally, it features Bluetooth connectivity, which enables you to connect to the Arva app for configuration, diagnostics and system updates.

BCA Stash Pro 40 UL Pack

New for 2024-25, the Stash Pro 40 UL is an ultralight pack for big days in the backcountry. Typically known for its classic, zippered pack designs, BCA is diving into something new with a roll-top opening on the top of this pack, maximizing your access and storage in the main compartment while retaining a tool-specific pocket on the front. An internal support frame and hip belt take the pressure off your shoulders, and a side stash pocket gives you quick access to water, snacks and other essentials.

BCA Stash 12 Pack

The ultra-sleek Stash 12 is ideal for resort and quick missions that don’t require you to bring the kitchen sink. The minimalist design features shovel and probe sleeves, a diagonal ski carry and a small front panel accessory pocket. It’s also hydration- and BC Link-compatible, making it an optimal choice for sidecountry use.

RAB Khroma Converge Jacket and Pants

Rab’s new line includes a number of insulated and shell pieces, but our favorite is the new 3-layer Khroma Converge kit, featuring GORE-TEX’s new ePE membrane—an expanded polyethylene membrane with a more environmentally-friendly build. These fully-featured shells boast large, zippered vents, backpack-friendly pockets, reinforced pant cuffs and a cozy liner on the interior to help you stay warm all day.

Fjallraven Expedition Fleece Hoodie – Returning for 2025

The Expedition Fleece Hoodie has been a fan-favorite for years, and Fjallraven is wise to bring it back for 2024-25. This warm and stretchy midlayer is purpose-built to avoid chafing under a backpack strap, with recycled polyester fabric that will wick moisture away from you when you’re exerting extra energy on the hill.

Flylow Men’s Stash Bib

Flylow’s latest—the Stash Bib— is a combination of hardshell and softshell fabrics, similar to the widely loved Moxie bib in the women’s line. The fabric provides a plush feel without sacrificing performance. The bib boasts a 20K/20K waterproof/windproof rating, low profile straps and articulated stitching in the knees and seat for extra comfort during long days in the mountains. Additionally, backcountry users will appreciate the beacon attachment in the thigh pocket.

Gordini Mtn Crew Artist Mitt

Gordini combines years of technical innovation with a bit of artistic flare in the new Mtn Crew Artist Mitts. Underneath the beautiful artwork on synthetic leather, 600-fill DownTek insulation keeps your digits toasty while a short, neoprene cuff keeps the snow out. “Working with Jordan Kendall Parks and Zoe Malee helps us bring a sense of joy to our snowy environments, as well as bring awareness to the fragility of its future,” Says Gordini Marketing Communications Manager Brett Wagenheim.

Le Bent Men’s Feathertop Ultra Lightweight Baselayer

This ultra-lightweight baselayer is made with a combination of raw bamboo and merino wool to yield an incredibly breathable layer with a super soft touch. Designed to be worn year-round, it features UPF50+ sun protection, contoured side panels and a lightweight hood. If you’re not already sold, big-mountain skier Cody Townsend deems it the “best base layer [he’s] ever worn, by far.”

Raide LF 40L Pack

Founded by a former Space X and The North Face employee, Raide has made a quiet but notable entry into the backcountry ski market. The company makes large, waterproof and aesthetic backcountry packs that are ultralight (1090g), providing the versatility to use them on short or long-haul missions. Thoughtfully designed pockets, back panel access and features such as the ice tool and helmet carriers are part of the reason Raide packs appeal to backcountry aficionados. Other aspects include a removable foam sheet for multiple uses in the field, an extra 10L of space provided by the rolltop opening and a frame that can be removed on those days when every gram counts.

Picture Grabey GTX Gloves

With Gore-Tex recently unveiling its new eco-friendly, PFC-free ePE insert, it was the perfect time for the BCorp-certified Picture to combine forces with the membrane giant. Underneath the windproof and waterproof GTX membrane, the Grabey GTX boasts 220g of thermal insulation to keep you warm. On top of it, you’ll find heater-compatible pockets and a rubber palm to ensure a solid grip.

Picture Komit.TR 34 Backpack

Picture got rave reviews on its Komit 26 pack last year but one common thread in the feedback was a request for more space. The France-based brand heeded the call and are now introducing the Kommit 34, a roomy and rugged Cordura pack weighing in at just 1,400g. The roll-top backpack has all the bells and whistles, including an actual safety whistle, A-frame ski carry, hydration compatibility, ski and crampon storage, quick-access tool pocket and much more.

Giro Comp Goggles

The Comp Goggles are designed for professional-level athletes but are available to passionate skiers of all types. Giro’s EVX+ Expansion View Frameless Design, coupled with a Toric VIVID lens from the world-renowned ZEISS Optics, is an incredible pairing. This is crucial when it comes to fast-paced line selection when a wide field of uninterrupted vision is paramount. Giro adds in EVAK Vent Tech, a non-absorbent foam liner that reduces the chance of lens fog by releasing moisture from inside the goggle while also acting as a barrier from the elements. Think of it like a one-way system that lets moisture out, not in. And if the clouds come out and you need to switch lenses, the Magnetic Interchange Lens System makes it easy to do so.
