Editor’s Picks: Boots & Bindings

Take a close-up look at the gear we’re stoked about for Winter 2024-25.

Scarpa 4-Quattro Pro

The all-new 4-Quattro Pro settles into the top spot in Scarpa’s previously released Quattro line of freeride-focused backcountry boots. The boot-maker is positioning this new model as a “130+ flex,” which is supported by a reinforced, stiffer cuff and a carbon core insert in the lower shell. It caters to skiers looking for a performance fit (low volume) and weighs 1,555 grams, just a slight bump over the 1,500-gram, 130-flex Quattro XT model. Scarpa is betting you won’t mind (or notice) that trivial weight difference thanks to increased performance, derived from a low stand height and a hinge point at the base of the tongue, which they say enables better energy transmission from your boot to your ski.

Atomic Hawx Prime 110 S BOA

Prioritizing ease of use and a comfortable fit, the Atomic Hawx Prime 110 S BOA boots boast a true medium volume 100mm last combined with the precision of the BOA Fit System. The high customization levels of the heat-moldable Mimic liner, featuring an asymmetrical Power Ankle Lock, guarantee a secure and powerful hold for optimal performance while providing lasting comfort. The innovative shell construction, which begins with a slim profile and strategically adds structural reinforcements, provides ample strength and support when arcing precision turns down your favorite groomed or gladed slope.

La Sportiva Kilo Boot

Weighing in at just 1,000g, the Kilo is designed for the most demanding ski mountaineer. Its über-lightweight design was built to climb effortlessly while retaining downhill performance, thanks to the Grilamid Bio-Based LF Carbon shell and cuff. Furthermore, the new shell closure system allows you to distribute pressure across your foot to avoid hotspots. As for the rest of the boot, every detail has been addressed to make the Kilo simple yet highly functional. It’s a great lightweight touring boot for dedicated backcountry skiers or entry-level skimo racers looking for a boot with ample power.

Head Formula 95 W Boot

Ladies who are looking for a comfortable and fun ride should step into the newly-designed Head Formula 95 W boot. Available in a 98mm or 100mm last size, it caters to various foot sizes. The buckles have a flexible element that reduces pressure points and improves the overall fit, while the cuff alignment lends a more precise adjustment to reduce friction between the shell and cuff. Its longer toe box increases torsional stiffness and power transmission, and the polyurethane shell ensures a smooth, controlled flex for a reliable ride while you’re tackling the groomers, bumps or freshly fallen pow.

Head Edge 130 Boot

Over the last 20 years, the Head Edge has evolved into their most popular boot, and after six generations, the newest version has markedly improved. Although its new shell design provides smoother entry and exit than many top-shelf options, the 130 flex model means business. The energy transfer provided by the unique hi-top lower shell reduces fatigue and increases the overall shredability of this hard-charging option. With a switch that releases the upper cuff to rotate freely and a Grip-Walk sole for easy walking, this is a very user-friendly option for high-level skiers seeking out the goods.

Tyrolia Attack 14 GW

Attack, the name says it all when it comes to Head’s popular freeski binding. Designed for maximum performance and stability, it’s ready to take on any terrain: groomers, park, pipe or powder. Boasting a DIN range of 4 to 14, the Attack 14 is the go-to for all but the most punishing of skiers. Known for its lightweight, solid power transmission and ease of step-in, you can simply focus on your turns. A heads up: if you’re rocking an ISO 9523 Touring sole, opt for the Attack 14 MN bindings designed for the extra sole thickness.

Roxa R/Fit MV Series Boots

The Roxa R/Fit MV Series is as cutting-edge as any ski boot on the market. The shell design features Roxa’s “Next Gen” two-piece Shell/Cuff overlap boot, meaning it will shine on groomed and firm surfaces at high speeds. Roxa’s engineers utilized advanced CAD Program technology and 3D prototyping to run digital tests and optimize structural integrity while reducing unnecessary weight. The best part? All models include a BioFit last and BioFit liner, an anatomic mold in the shell with pre-formed relief in areas and a heat moldable liner that will have your feet feeling comfortable and stable.

Cast Touring Freetour 2.0 Pivot 15

The highly anticipated Cast Freetour 2.0 Pivot 15 touring binding is here. Simply put, this is a lightweight ski touring setup with the stability of an alpine binding. This system allows you to easily swap the Pivot toe piece with a pin touring one for the ascent and then lock your Pivot 15 toe back onto the bomber base plate for the descent. With significant elastic travel, the fastest recentering, a short mounting zone and multidirectional release, a Pivot 15 binding is like none other. The system is lightweight (1000g when touring), simple and compatible with both Alpine/Grip Walk boots, and is sold with an interchangeable Touring ISO 9523 AFD for rockered touring boots. Plus, who doesn’t love purple?

Kastle Terre K90 Boots

The new Kastle Terra K90 Boot is built for experienced, hard-charging women who need a boot that will perform in all conditions. This four-buckle boot is composed of a two-piece shell that thrives on piste and all-mountain terrain. The Kastle Comfort Liner ensures a snug fit that won’t give in at high speeds and high pressure, and a signature Comfort Buckle secures the front of the toe box without causing pain. Oftentimes a high-performance ski boot can come with the sacrifice of comfort, but that isn’t the case here.

Tecnica Mach1 110 BOA & Mach BOA HV 95 W

Tecnica has long been known for making high-performance ski boots; this year is no different. The Mach1 series boots deliver the quality you expect from Tecnica with the new technology from BOA. Both the HV 110 and HV 95 W include two adjustable Aluminum Lock buckles on the cuff with the BOA system placed on the shell surrounding the feet. Delivering micro-adjustable, precision fit, BOA is designed to bring your performance to another level as it secures your foot in a snug, comfortable manner. Boots make all the difference on the hill, so don’t settle. The Tecnica Mach1 BOA boot is for the hard-charging, all-mountain skier.

Nordica Speed Machine W BOA 95 & Speed Machine BOA 110

If you’re looking for a performance boot that will ski the whole mountain with ease, the Nordica Speed Machine is certainly worth a peek. The Speed Machine W BOA 95 and BOA 110 boots are both built with Nordica’s Tri Force Technology. This means the plastic surrounding your foot has varying stiffness, with the side of the foot being the firmest and the top being softer. It allows for greater stability in the boot where you need it without sacrificing comfort. Both boots also include a customizable shell and liner to make sure this boot fits your exact specifications. The BOA system adds to this concept of control, allowing you to adjust how the boot fits with pinpoint accuracy. The Nordica Speed Machine W BOA 95 & Speed Machine BOA 110 are a fantastic example of performance and comfort united into one boot.

Fischer RC4 Pro MV DYN BOA

All-new from Fischer is the RC4 Pro MV DYN BOA, built for hard-charging freeriders who want touring capability but not at the cost of downhill performance. This beast of a boot features Dynafit toe inserts and a fixed upper cuff that compromises nothing on the descent. A stock ZipFit liner can be fully customized, along with the VACUUM shell, for comfort and performance. The newly popular BOA fit system cinches snugly around your lower foot to dial in your fit, and GripWalk soles allow you to scramble around the backcountry with ease.

Dynafit Ridge Pro

Dynafit’s new touring boot is the first of its kind. Featuring a Floating Tongue, this new patented tech reduces the volume in your boot without crushing your foot. Revised, tested and perfected, The Dynafit Ridge Pro is Hoji’s product of obsession. It wouldn’t be right to have a boot made by Hoji without the Hoji Lock system, a closure that locks the cuff and shell on the inside. Finally hitting the shelves in Fall 2024, its construct will enable you with friction-free movement and 70-degree cuff rotation.
